Moon sign calculator: what is my moon sign?

What is my moon sign? Enter your birth date and place below and the calculator shows it in seconds, free. Your moon sign is the sign the Moon occupied when you were born. It moves through a whole sign every two to two and a half days, which makes it one of the most personal placements in a chart — and one of the easiest to find, because a date and a place are usually enough.

The Moon changes sign every two and a half days, so an exact birth time sharpens the degree but rarely the sign.

What the Moon describes

The Moon covers emotional need, comfort, habit and the reflex that takes over when you are depleted. It is the placement people recognise fastest once it is named: what restores you after a difficult week, what you do when you are hurt before you have decided anything, and what kind of safety you are quietly looking for.

Do you need a birth time?

Usually not. The Moon changes sign only every couple of days, so the sign is stable across most of a day. The exception is a birthday within a few hours of a sign change, where the exact time decides. This calculator marks that case explicitly instead of quietly choosing one sign, so you know when to double-check.

Moon sign versus sun sign

The Sun sign describes a direction you grow toward; the Moon describes what you already need. Two people with the same Sun sign and different moons read very differently in private, which is why a Sun-sign horoscope can feel accurate about your ambitions and wrong about your reactions. The big three calculator adds the Rising sign, which covers how you arrive in a room.

Moon by house, when you have a time

With a birth time the Moon also falls in one of the twelve houses, and that changes the practical meaning: the Moon in the fourth reads as needing a base, in the seventh as needing a partner to feel settled, in the tenth as tying emotional life to being seen doing something. The full report includes the house whenever the birth time is known.

How the calculation works

Your birth place is converted to coordinates and the local time zone for that date, then the Moon's position is computed for that minute and expressed as a sign and degree. Only the sign is shown here; the degree is what the report uses to judge whether the moon is near a boundary.

All twelve moon signs

The Moon's sign describes what you need in order to feel safe. Here is each one.

♈AriesMarch 21 – April 19

An Aries Moon feels first and reflects later. Emotion arrives as heat, quickly and honestly, and it leaves just as fast once it has been expressed. You need a life with some fight in it, and you feel unsafe when you cannot act on what you feel. Being direct about your needs is the fastest way to soothe yourself; swallowing anger turns into restlessness. You also calm down fastest when you move your body.

♉TaurusApril 20 – May 20

A Taurus Moon settles through the body and the senses. You feel calm when your surroundings are calm, and a messy room or an unpredictable person can unsettle you more than you admit. You need a few reliable comforts and at least one person who never suddenly changes. Emotional security, for you, is built out of routine. When you are upset, the way back is usually something physical: food, water, sleep, a walk, a familiar song.

♊GeminiMay 21 – June 20

A Gemini Moon processes feeling through words and company. Naming an emotion out loud calms you faster than sitting alone with it, and silence in a relationship reads to you as trouble. You need conversation, news and a little mental movement to feel safe. When something hurts, you may explain it before you let yourself feel it. Your growth is allowing a feeling to exist without narrating it immediately.

♋CancerJune 21 – July 22

A Cancer Moon feels in tides. Your mood responds to the room, the date, the memory in the song, and you need a private place to come back to yourself. Home is not a decoration for you, it is an organ. You nurture first and ask later, and you can end up resenting people who never noticed the effort. Learning to say what you need, plainly, before it becomes a wound, is the whole work.

♌LeoJuly 23 – August 22

A Leo Moon needs to matter to someone. Feeling seen, chosen, celebrated, even in small ways, is what tells you that you are safe. You give generously and you notice whether it is noticed. When you are hurt you may become proud instead of sad, which hides the need underneath. Being honest about wanting appreciation, without making it a test, keeps your warmth flowing in both directions.

♍VirgoAugust 23 – September 22

A Virgo Moon feels settled when things are in order. A plan, a list, a clean kitchen, a problem with a next step: these are how you calm your nervous system. You show love by noticing the detail nobody else noticed. The risk is turning the same microscope on yourself, where every small mistake becomes evidence. Being as fair to yourself as you are to anyone you are helping is the practice.

♎LibraSeptember 23 – October 22

A Libra Moon feels safe when things between people are level. Tension in a room lands in your body before it lands anywhere else, and you will smooth it even at your own cost. You need company that is polite and mutual, and you can delay your own feelings for a long time to keep the peace. Practising small disagreements, and surviving them, is how you stop losing yourself in the name of calm.

♏ScorpioOctober 23 – November 21

A Scorpio Moon feels privately and completely. You do not show the weather until you have understood it, and by then it has usually become a decision. Emotional safety, for you, means being able to be fully honest with one person. Half-trust leaves you watchful. When you are hurt you would rather cut than explain. Naming the feeling while it is still small keeps your intensity from turning into distance.

♐SagittariusNovember 22 – December 21

A Sagittarius Moon feels free when there is somewhere to go. Space is your emotional requirement: room to change your mind, room to laugh after a hard week, room not to be managed. You process difficulty by finding the meaning in it, sometimes a little too quickly. Making one or two commitments you genuinely keep gives your restlessness a home instead of an escape route.

♑CapricornDecember 22 – January 19

A Capricorn Moon feels safe when the structure holds. Plans, savings, deadlines and a clear role soothe you in a way that reassurance never quite does. You tend to manage feeling rather than show it, and you may confuse endurance with being fine. Allowing yourself to be looked after, especially when you have not achieved anything that day, is the quiet work of this placement.

♒AquariusJanuary 20 – February 18

An Aquarius Moon feels safest with a little distance and a lot of honesty. You need to understand an emotion to be comfortable in it, and you may step back before you step closer. Being different is not a problem for you, being managed is. Staying connected during a feeling, rather than analysing it from a safe chair, is how your bonds get deep instead of merely interesting.

♓PiscesFebruary 19 – March 20

A Pisces Moon feels everything nearby. You take on the mood of a room and sometimes carry it home for days. Music, water, sleep and solitude restore you faster than advice does. You can be endlessly compassionate and still avoid the one honest conversation, because conflict feels like it might break something. Letting a feeling be named out loud, to one trusted person, keeps your empathy from turning into fog.

Questions

How often does the moon change sign?

Every two to two and a half days, at roughly half a degree an hour.

Can my moon sign be wrong?

Only if your birth date falls within a few hours of a sign change. The calculator flags that case rather than hiding it.

What if I was born on a sign-change day?

Add your birth time to settle it. Without one, read both neighbouring signs and see which fits your reactions better.

Is the moon sign used in the paid report?

Yes. It appears in the chart section and, with a birth time, in its house as well.
