Sun, Moon and Rising sign calculator

What are my Sun, Moon and Rising signs? This free sun moon rising sign calculator finds all three at once. The big three are the three placements most people mean when they say they know their chart: your Sun sign, your Moon sign and your Rising sign. Enter your birth details and all three are calculated from real planetary positions — free, with no account and nothing stored.

Your birth time is what makes the Rising sign possible: the Ascendant changes sign about every two hours.

What the three placements describe

The Sun's sign describes your direction: the thing you keep growing toward, and the flavour of the person you are trying to become. The Moon's sign describes what you need in order to feel safe, and the reflex that takes over when you are tired or hurt. The Rising sign — the Ascendant — describes how you arrive: the manner other people meet first, and the frame the rest of your chart is drawn on.

Read together, they answer three different questions at once: what am I reaching for, what do I need, and how do I show up. That is why they are a better starting point than the Sun sign alone, which only answers the first.

What the calculator needs, and why

  • Your birth date: this fixes the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars and the slower planets.
  • Your birth time: this is what makes the Rising sign possible, because the Ascendant changes sign about every two hours.
  • Your birth place: latitude and longitude decide which degree of the zodiac was on the horizon, and the local time zone decides how your clock time converts to the sky.

Without a birth time you still get a full Sun and Moon reading; the Rising sign is left blank rather than guessed, and the calculator says so. If you want to understand the difference that hour makes, read the guide to a chart without a birth time before you order anything that depends on houses.

How the calculation works

Your birth place is looked up to get coordinates. The time zone that place used on that date is applied, so daylight saving and historical changes are handled, and the planetary positions are then computed for that exact minute. The Sun's and Moon's signs come straight from those positions; the Ascendant comes from the intersection of the ecliptic with the eastern horizon at your latitude.

Nothing is estimated except where your birth time itself is unknown, and that is stated on the result. The same engine powers the paid report, so what you see here is the same chart, just less of it.

After you have your three

The free mini profile takes the same details and returns a slightly longer reading of all three plus one of your strongest days in the next month. If you want the whole chart — houses, every planet, the aspects, your own questions and the year ahead — that is what the full report adds.

What the big three cannot tell you

They cannot tell you what will happen, they do not describe your health, your income or your legal position, and they are not a verdict on your character. They describe three tendencies that you are free to recognise, argue with, or ignore. A reading is most useful when it names something you already suspected in words you had not found.

All twelve sun signs

The Sun's sign describes your direction — what you keep growing toward. Here is each one.

♈AriesMarch 21 – April 19

With the Sun in Aries your core drive is to begin. You trust your own impulse more than anyone else's caution, and you would rather start something imperfect than wait for permission. Courage is your natural currency: you say the difficult thing, you take the first step, you defend people who cannot defend themselves. The friction comes when a project needs the slow middle part, because your energy is built for ignition. You grow most when you learn that finishing is also a form of bravery.

♉TaurusApril 20 – May 20

With the Sun in Taurus your core drive is to make things real and lasting. You build with your hands, your patience and your taste, and you trust what you can touch. Comfort is not laziness for you, it is a working condition: good food, steady rhythms, a place that feels like yours. You are famously loyal and famously slow to change your mind. The growth is in noticing when staying safe has quietly become the thing that costs you most.

♊GeminiMay 21 – June 20

With the Sun in Gemini your core drive is to understand and connect. You think by talking, learn by asking, and stay bright when there is variety. You are the person who notices the pattern nobody else spotted and can explain it to anyone. Your curiosity is genuine, which is why people open up to you. The work is depth: choosing a few things and staying with them past the point where they stop feeling new, long enough for mastery to happen.

♋CancerJune 21 – July 22

With the Sun in Cancer your core drive is to protect and belong. You remember everything: who said what, which year was hard, who needed you. Care is your language, and you give it practically rather than loudly, by feeding people and making room for them. You feel your way into situations before you think your way in. The growth is letting people belong to you without earning it, and letting go of a hurt once it has taught you what it had to teach.

♌LeoJuly 23 – August 22

With the Sun in Leo your core drive is to express something that is genuinely yours. You are warm, generous and visible, and you are at your best when you are creating rather than competing. You take pride in people as much as in work: you love loudly, you celebrate your friends, you want the room to be brighter. The growth is in self-worth that does not depend on applause, because the work worth doing is often done before anyone claps.

♍VirgoAugust 23 – September 22

With the Sun in Virgo your core drive is to make things work better. You see the flaw and the fix in the same glance, and you improve whatever you touch: a system, a paragraph, a person's difficult week. Your care is practical, which is why people rely on you. The growth is in turning that precision toward what is already good, and in letting something be finished rather than perfect. Your standards are a gift when they have a kindness attached.

♎LibraSeptember 23 – October 22

With the Sun in Libra your core drive is to find the fair, beautiful arrangement. You see every side, which makes you a natural mediator and a genuinely gracious host of other people's lives. Aesthetics matter to you because harmony is not decoration for you, it is how you think. The growth is in your own opinion: making the choice, saying the unpopular thing, and accepting that some conflict is the price of an honest relationship rather than a failure of one.

♏ScorpioOctober 23 – November 21

With the Sun in Scorpio your core drive is to get to the truth of the thing. You are not interested in the surface version, and you can feel when something is being left unsaid. That depth makes you loyal, perceptive and unusually brave in hard conversations. You invest completely or not at all. The growth is in trust: letting people be imperfect without it becoming a betrayal, and letting something be healed without needing to know every detail of how it broke.

♐SagittariusNovember 22 – December 21

With the Sun in Sagittarius your core drive is to expand: bigger map, wider view, more life. You are drawn to travel, study, meaning and the honest answer, even when the honest answer is inconvenient. Optimism is your engine, and people borrow it from you. The growth is in staying long enough to actually arrive, and in remembering that the people who love you do not want your freedom limited, they want to be included in it.

♑CapricornDecember 22 – January 19

With the Sun in Capricorn your core drive is to build something that outlasts the mood of the moment. You take responsibility early and easily, and you measure yourself by what you finish. Self-respect, for you, comes from competence. The growth is in permission: enjoying the middle of the climb, accepting help before you have earned it, and remembering that being needed is not the same as being loved. Your seriousness is a form of care, once it lets people close.

♒AquariusJanuary 20 – February 18

With the Sun in Aquarius your core drive is to see further than the current arrangement. You question what everyone accepted, you care about the group rather than only the inner circle, and you need to be free to be strange in your own way. Friendship is central to your life. The growth is in the specific: an abstract principle is easier for you than one person's messy Tuesday, and the people who love you usually want the second one.

♓PiscesFebruary 19 – March 20

With the Sun in Pisces your core drive is to stay connected to something larger than the practical day. You absorb atmosphere, you feel other people's states as if they were weather, and you make art, comfort and forgiveness seem natural. Your imagination is a real skill. The growth is boundaries: knowing which feelings are yours, saying no before resentment builds, and giving your softness a structure so it can last instead of dissolving.

All twelve moon signs

The Moon's sign describes what you need in order to feel safe. Here is each one.

♈AriesMarch 21 – April 19

An Aries Moon feels first and reflects later. Emotion arrives as heat, quickly and honestly, and it leaves just as fast once it has been expressed. You need a life with some fight in it, and you feel unsafe when you cannot act on what you feel. Being direct about your needs is the fastest way to soothe yourself; swallowing anger turns into restlessness. You also calm down fastest when you move your body.

♉TaurusApril 20 – May 20

A Taurus Moon settles through the body and the senses. You feel calm when your surroundings are calm, and a messy room or an unpredictable person can unsettle you more than you admit. You need a few reliable comforts and at least one person who never suddenly changes. Emotional security, for you, is built out of routine. When you are upset, the way back is usually something physical: food, water, sleep, a walk, a familiar song.

♊GeminiMay 21 – June 20

A Gemini Moon processes feeling through words and company. Naming an emotion out loud calms you faster than sitting alone with it, and silence in a relationship reads to you as trouble. You need conversation, news and a little mental movement to feel safe. When something hurts, you may explain it before you let yourself feel it. Your growth is allowing a feeling to exist without narrating it immediately.

♋CancerJune 21 – July 22

A Cancer Moon feels in tides. Your mood responds to the room, the date, the memory in the song, and you need a private place to come back to yourself. Home is not a decoration for you, it is an organ. You nurture first and ask later, and you can end up resenting people who never noticed the effort. Learning to say what you need, plainly, before it becomes a wound, is the whole work.

♌LeoJuly 23 – August 22

A Leo Moon needs to matter to someone. Feeling seen, chosen, celebrated, even in small ways, is what tells you that you are safe. You give generously and you notice whether it is noticed. When you are hurt you may become proud instead of sad, which hides the need underneath. Being honest about wanting appreciation, without making it a test, keeps your warmth flowing in both directions.

♍VirgoAugust 23 – September 22

A Virgo Moon feels settled when things are in order. A plan, a list, a clean kitchen, a problem with a next step: these are how you calm your nervous system. You show love by noticing the detail nobody else noticed. The risk is turning the same microscope on yourself, where every small mistake becomes evidence. Being as fair to yourself as you are to anyone you are helping is the practice.

♎LibraSeptember 23 – October 22

A Libra Moon feels safe when things between people are level. Tension in a room lands in your body before it lands anywhere else, and you will smooth it even at your own cost. You need company that is polite and mutual, and you can delay your own feelings for a long time to keep the peace. Practising small disagreements, and surviving them, is how you stop losing yourself in the name of calm.

♏ScorpioOctober 23 – November 21

A Scorpio Moon feels privately and completely. You do not show the weather until you have understood it, and by then it has usually become a decision. Emotional safety, for you, means being able to be fully honest with one person. Half-trust leaves you watchful. When you are hurt you would rather cut than explain. Naming the feeling while it is still small keeps your intensity from turning into distance.

♐SagittariusNovember 22 – December 21

A Sagittarius Moon feels free when there is somewhere to go. Space is your emotional requirement: room to change your mind, room to laugh after a hard week, room not to be managed. You process difficulty by finding the meaning in it, sometimes a little too quickly. Making one or two commitments you genuinely keep gives your restlessness a home instead of an escape route.

♑CapricornDecember 22 – January 19

A Capricorn Moon feels safe when the structure holds. Plans, savings, deadlines and a clear role soothe you in a way that reassurance never quite does. You tend to manage feeling rather than show it, and you may confuse endurance with being fine. Allowing yourself to be looked after, especially when you have not achieved anything that day, is the quiet work of this placement.

♒AquariusJanuary 20 – February 18

An Aquarius Moon feels safest with a little distance and a lot of honesty. You need to understand an emotion to be comfortable in it, and you may step back before you step closer. Being different is not a problem for you, being managed is. Staying connected during a feeling, rather than analysing it from a safe chair, is how your bonds get deep instead of merely interesting.

♓PiscesFebruary 19 – March 20

A Pisces Moon feels everything nearby. You take on the mood of a room and sometimes carry it home for days. Music, water, sleep and solitude restore you faster than advice does. You can be endlessly compassionate and still avoid the one honest conversation, because conflict feels like it might break something. Letting a feeling be named out loud, to one trusted person, keeps your empathy from turning into fog.

All twelve rising signs

The Ascendant describes how you arrive in a room. Here is each one.

♈AriesMarch 21 – April 19

With Aries rising you come across as direct, awake and slightly impatient. People sense that you will not waste their time, which makes you easy to trust in a crisis and occasionally blunt in a quiet room. You walk into places first. Your growing edge is reading the room before you take it over, and letting other people's slower pace be a pace rather than a problem.

♉TaurusApril 20 – May 20

Taurus rising gives you a steady, warm presence that people relax around. You look unhurried even when you are not, and you rarely raise your voice to be taken seriously. There is a stubbornness in the first impression: people sense you cannot be pushed. Your growing edge is flexibility in small things, so that your steadiness reads as strength rather than as a wall.

♊GeminiMay 21 – June 20

Gemini rising makes you quick, curious and easy to talk to. People assume you are younger than you are, that you know everyone, and that you will have an opinion ready. You adapt to whoever you are with, which is a gift in new rooms and confusing when you want to be known for one thing. Your growing edge is letting people see the version of you that is not performing.

♋CancerJune 21 – July 22

Cancer rising gives you a soft, watchful first impression. People feel looked after in your company and often tell you things early. You read atmosphere before you speak, and you can appear shy in a new room while actually absorbing everything. Your growing edge is a boundary: warmth that comes with a clear no is warmth people can trust rather than test.

♌LeoJuly 23 – August 22

Leo rising makes you memorable. You take up space warmly, dress like yourself and usually end up as the person others describe when they tell a story about the evening. There is dignity in your first impression: people assume you do not do small. Your growing edge is sharing the spotlight without dimming, so your confidence makes the room bigger instead of smaller.

♍VirgoAugust 23 – September 22

Virgo rising gives you a composed, considered first impression. People assume you are competent, and they are usually right, but they may also assume you are more certain than you feel. You observe before joining. Your growing edge is letting imperfection be visible early, because the trust you build through precision is smaller than the trust you build through honesty.

♎LibraSeptember 23 – October 22

Libra rising gives you an appealing, open first impression. People find you easy to be near and assume you agree more than you do. You have a social instinct for what would make the moment nicer, and you often provide it. Your growing edge is being willing to be slightly less pleasing and slightly more definite, since the people worth keeping like you better when they can find you.

♏ScorpioOctober 23 – November 21

Scorpio rising gives you a quiet, magnetic first impression. People sense there is more to you than you are saying, which is usually accurate. You notice what others are hiding and rarely mention it. Your growing edge is transparency about ordinary things: the more people know what you are actually thinking, the less they have to guess, and the fewer reasons they invent.

♐SagittariusNovember 22 – December 21

Sagittarius rising gives you an open, lively first impression that makes people want to come along. You say the unexpected thing, laugh first, and ask the question everyone else was avoiding. There is a restlessness in your presence that some read as confidence and some as flight. Your growing edge is presence without an exit plan, so people can rely on you in the middle of things.

♑CapricornDecember 22 – January 19

Capricorn rising gives you a composed, self-possessed first impression. Strangers assume you are the responsible one, and often address you as if you are older than you are. You build trust slowly. Your growing edge is warmth in the first minute: a little visible enthusiasm costs you nothing and lets people see the person behind the poise.

♒AquariusJanuary 20 – February 18

Aquarius rising gives you a distinctly individual first impression. People notice that you do not quite follow the script, and they either find it refreshing or need a moment. You are friendly with everyone and intimate with few. Your growing edge is warmth on the surface: small, ordinary signals of care make your independence feel welcoming rather than distant.

♓PiscesFebruary 19 – March 20

Pisces rising gives you a gentle, slightly otherworldly first impression that invites confidences. People find you easy to be vulnerable with, and some will assume you have no edges at all. You drift rather than arrive. Your growing edge is clear presence: saying what you want in the first five minutes of a meeting, so your softness reads as grace rather than uncertainty.

Questions

Is the big three calculator really free?

Yes. No account, no email, no payment — the calculation happens and the result is shown.

Do you store my birth details?

No. The calculator returns signs only; nothing is written to a database.

Why is my Rising sign missing?

It needs a birth time. Without one, the Ascendant cannot be calculated, so it is left blank rather than guessed.

What if the result looks wrong?

Check the birth date format and the place: a city name without a country can resolve to the wrong place if several share the name. Adding the country fixes almost every mismatch.
