The total solar eclipse of August 2, 2027
The Moon passes unusually close to Earth at this new moon, so totality lasts more than six minutes at its longest, near Luxor in Egypt. The path of totality crosses the Strait of Gibraltar and the southern tip of Spain, North Africa from Morocco to Egypt, and the Arabian Peninsula. Much of Europe, Africa and the Middle East sees a partial eclipse.
Astrologically, it falls at 10° Leo — a new moon of the heart. Leo rules joy, love, children, creativity and the courage to be seen. Eclipses in Leo ask: where have you been playing small?
The annular solar eclipse of February 6, 2027
An annular eclipse leaves a bright ring of sunlight around the Moon — the "ring of fire". This one is visible as an annular eclipse along a narrow path across parts of South America and West Africa. It falls at 17° Aquarius, opening the Leo–Aquarius eclipse story with a theme of friendship, community and doing things your own way.
The three penumbral lunar eclipses
February 20 (Virgo), July 18 (Capricorn) and August 17 (Aquarius) are penumbral: the Moon passes only through Earth's faint outer shadow and dims slightly. Easy to miss in the sky — but astrologers treat them as extra-strong full moons, times when something reaches a natural end.
